{"id":1453,"date":"2014-07-22T16:15:35","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T16:15:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allrisktraining.com\/?p=1453"},"modified":"2014-07-22T18:53:07","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T18:53:07","slug":"bringing-focus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allrisktraining.com\/allrisktraining\/workplace-focus\/bringing-focus\/","title":{"rendered":"Bringing it into Focus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/allrisktraining.com\/allrisktraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/bringing-it-into-focus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1452\" src=\"https:\/\/allrisktraining.com\/allrisktraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/bringing-it-into-focus-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"bringing-it-into-focus\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Bringing it into Focus<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2><strong>Tips to Prepare for Work Day Focus!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Most of our workdays start basically the same.\u00a0 We get up, get ready for work, eat a quick breakfast, do some last minute chores and head off to work.\u00a0 On our drive to work, we might listen to the radio, enjoy the silence, review last night\u2019s events, and\/or review the events of the coming days or weeks.\u00a0 Our minds are always racing with ideas, responsibilities and distractions.\u00a0 We accomplish a lot of our daily tasks on auto pilot.\u00a0 But what happens when you get to work?\u00a0 Are you able to concentrate on the tasks as hand?\u00a0 Are the distractions dividing your attention?<\/p>\n<h3>Before you start your work day, practice these four things to prepare for a safe and productive day.<\/h3>\n<h3>After every break practice 1 &#8211; 3 and include 4 for extremely hazardous or extremely important tasks or jobs.<\/h3>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mental Preparation &#8211; Take a couple of minutes to focus on getting prepared for work, mentally. \u00a0Have breakfast or small meal before your shift that includes protein. \u00a0Breakfast starts your metabolism and protein gives your brain the power to respond more quickly than without protein. \u00a0Something as easy as an egg, protein bar or protein drink will do the trick. \u00a0Clear your mind of all the external distractions that are going on in your life.\u00a0\u00a0 Issues and even fun with friends, family, and children are distracting.\u00a0 Maybe your concerned about something you need to complete by the end of the day and you don&#8217;t want to forget. \u00a0Make a list of things that you are thinking about to record them and deal with them while on break or after work as appropriate.\u00a0 Clear your mind so that you are 100% focused on the job and it\u2019s tasks.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Physical Preparation \u2013 Get your body ready for work.\u00a0 Do 1-2 minutes of deep breathing, breathing deep slows the heart rate, relaxes the muscles and focuses the mind.\u00a0 Allow at least 5 minutes for stretching, stretching loosens the muscles and tendons allowing you to sit, stand and move more comfortably. \u00a0Most professional athletes will spend numerous hours preparing their bodies for a one or two hour performance.\u00a0 We will spend between 8 &amp; 12 hours per day performing our job functions.\u00a0 Take a few minutes to physically prepare.\u00a0 Even if your job requires you to sit for long periods of time, stretching is important to begin your day and after break periods.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tool and Work Area\u00a0Preparation &#8211; Have the proper tools and equipment to do your job.\u00a0 Once your job assignment is given, assemble the necessary tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), procedures, permits and other job aids. \u00a0Prepare the work area to make the job free of clutter. \u00a0Clear and clean your work surfaces and\/or work space. \u00a0Review the conditions of the tools and PPE.\u00a0 Repair or replace any tools that are not in proper working order.\u00a0 Even when you have performed a task several times in the past, be sure to check for procedural changes and report or document any changes you make to the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pre-shift Briefing &#8211;
